Gothia Tanker Alliance’s LNG-fueled tanker ready to start ops

Another liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered vessel is set to join the growing fleet of worldwide vessels using the chilled fuel as main propulsion fuel.

The intermediate product and chemical tanker named Fure Vinga is the first of six LNG-fueled vessels ordered by the partners in the Swedish Gothia Tanker Alliance, Furetank, Älvtank and Erik Thun.

The 149.9 meters-long Fur Vinga, built by China’s Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding, completed sea trials earlier this year and is set to start operations soon, according to Furetank that will operate the vessel.

Sweden-based Furetank said in a brief statement via its social media channels on Wednesday that the LNG-powered ice class 1A tanker would be joining the company’s fleet “very soon”.

The six 16,300 dwt vessels ordered by the Swedish partners will be built to a design developed by FKAB together with Furetank.

The ships will fulfill the Tier III rules and have dual fuel/LNG propulsion including LNG in port consumption, according to the Swedish partners.

The vessels are scheduled for delivery between 2018 and 2019.
