Germany: Nordic Yards Delivers Type CS 2800 Container Ship to Hammonia Reederei

Business & Finance

Nordic Yards, manufacturer of technologically sophisticated and innovative special ships and maritime structures, hands over the type CS 2800 container ship to Hammonia Reederei today. On 19 November 2010, the Hamburg shipping company placed the order with Nordic Yards for the delivery of the ship, parts of which had already been constructed. The container ship with construction number 163 had been bought by Nordic Yards from the insolvency assets of the former Wadan Yards. Fabrication work was complete within six months after the successful conclusion of contract negotiations with Hammonia Reederei. About 100 employees worked on the ship over the last half-year. The naming ceremony of the type CS 2800 is planned for 27 May 2011 in Warnemünde.

We have had an experienced and reliable partner in Nordic Yards at our side over recent months for the construction of our new container ship,” says Dr. Karsten Liebing, Managing Director of Hammonia Reederei. “The ship adds to our charter fleet of 41 container ships, 15 multi-purpose/heavy-lift vessels and two bulk carriers at exactly the right moment. At the time fabrication was recommencing, we had already agreed a charter for the first two years with chartering broker Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG, Hamburg. We are also delighted that HCI Capital AG was able to successfully provide the funds from its own resources in a difficult market situation.”

Today’s delivery represents a further successfully completed project for Nordic Yards. Our shipbuilders have ensured that the high requirements for quality are fulfilled,” says Vitaly Yusufov, Owner and Managing Director of Nordic Yards. “At Warnemünde, we shall be working on new orders from Siemens Energy over the coming months.”

The type CS 2800 container ship has a deadweight of 39,268 tonnes (DWT – Dead Weight Tonnage) and reaches a speed of 22 knots. With a draught of 11.40 metres, a length of 225 metres and a beam of 29.80 metres, the ship has a container stowage capacity of 2,790 TEU with 400 reefer sockets.
