Germany Approves Borkum Riffgrund 2

The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency has approved 97 wind turbines in German North Sea.

97 wind turbines are planned for the 43 square kilometers area.

Dong Energy will build BR2 as the second phase of BR1.

Borkum Riffgrund 1 will consist of up to 89 turbines with 3.6MW capacity each from Siemens Wind Power with a total capacity of 320MW.

Dong Energy needs to begin the construction not later than 2015.

In December 2009, Dong Energy took control over Borkum Riffgrund 1+2 by acquiring PNE’s 50% ownership interest in each of the two German offshore wind turbine projects.
