The German cruise market is expected to reach some 3 million cruise passengers already in 2020, according to Felix Eichhorn, the president of German cruise line AIDA Cruises.

“AIDA will be initiating a new burst of growth in the German cruise market with the commissioning of AIDAprima in 2016,” Eichhorn said at the publication launch of the CLIA Germany study, ‘The Ocean Cruise Market in Germany 2015’ in Berlin.

In the upcoming years, AIDA Cruises is scheduled to commission four ships of a completely new generation and double its capacity.

“Our focus is on attracting wholly new guest groups to enjoy vacations on board. When it comes to vacationing in Germany, we want to remain the first choice for cruises,” Eichhorn added.

In 2015 alone more than 800,000 German passengers took a cruise on board one of the ten vessels operated by AIDA Cruises. The total number of passengers from Germany was around 1.8 million in 2015.

The company’s latest fleet addition, AIDAprima, the eleventh ship in the cruise line’s fleet, will be christened in Hamburg on May 7, 2016.
