Gas leak at Gudrun platform

Exploration & Production

There has been a gas leak at the Statoil-operated Gudrun platform in the Norwegian part of the North Sea.

According to Offshore.no, a Norwegian website covering the country’s oil and gas sector, the leak occurred on the platform earlier this morning.

No injuries have been reported to the crew. There were 26 people on board at the time of the incident.

Offshore.no has reported a statement by a Statoil spokesperson who said that a crack in a pipe caused the leak. Production at the platform was shut down after the leakage was discovered.

Statoil did not reply to an e-mail sent by Offshore Energy Today, seeking more info.

Gudrun

Gudrun was officially opened by the prime minister of Norway Erna Solberg in August last year. This is the first new Statoil-operated platform on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) since Kristin in 2005.
