Det norske oljeselskap AS, the operator of the Ivar Aasen field in the North Sea, has shared images of a helideck being lifted on top of the Living Quarters (LQ) for the Ivar Aasen platform, being built by Apply Leirvik in its construction site in Stord, Norway.

According to Det norske, it took three hours to place the helideck, weighing just under 100 tons, in position. The helideck was built and assembled in China, and lifted into place by Eide Marine Services.

To remind, in February 2013, the Singapore-based Sembcorp Marine was selected by Det norske to build the Process, Drilling and Quarters Platform (pdQ) Topsides for the Ivar Aasen development. Sembcorp Marine in turn selected the Norwegian living quarters and helideck contractor Apply Leirvik for delivery of the LQ with a helideck.

Under the contract, Apply will deliver a 7 floor Living Quarters module with an area of 3300 m2, a capacity of 70 single cabins, recreation areas, control room, administration centre, change rooms, helicopter deck and other facilities required for operation of an offshore hotel. Engineering work started in 2013, and the delivery is expected in the first quarter 2016.

The Ivar Aasen field is located on the Utsira High in the North Sea, and is expected to reach peak production of about 75 000 barrels oil equivalents per day. The field has an anticipated economic life of 20 years, and Det norske’s share is 34.8 per cent.
