GALLERY: First steel cut for Maersk Oil’s Culzean FSO in Singapore

Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine has cut first steel for the floating, storage and offloading (FSO) vessel meant for the Maersk Oil-operated Culzean development in the UK sector of the North Sea.

The fist steel was cut in Singapore on Friday, July 22, 2016, Maersk Oil reported through its social media channels on Monday.

The Maersk Culzean FSO will be deployed at the Culzean field approximately 145 mile (233 kilometers) off the coast of Aberdeen in a water depth of 295 feet (90 meters).

Japanese operator of offshore floating platforms, Modec, was awarded a contract by Maersk Oil to supply the FSO vessel for the Culzean development project in September 2015. Modec subsequently awarded a contract to Sembcorp Marine to design and build the FSO in November 2015.

Modec was put in charge to supply the internal turret and topside modules and Sembcorp Marine to install and integrate them. The FSO is scheduled for delivery in 2018.

The Culzean high-pressure/ high-temperature field will be developed using three bridge-linked platforms: a wellhead platform where drilling and production takes place; a central processing platform where the produced gas and condensate are processed and exported; and utilities and living quarters, providing accommodation, living space and services for the crew.

Gas will be exported to the CATS pipeline, coming onshore at Teeside, with condensate exported via a short pipeline to the FSO vessel for offload to tanker.

Earlier this year, a steel-cutting ceremony for the first of the three topsides modules took place at Sembcorp Marine’s Admiralty Yard in Singapore.
