Funding available for Welsh marine renewables projects

Business & Finance

The Coastal Communities Fund (CCF), backed by the UK government, has launched the £3.4 million funding opportunity available for coastal project proposals in Wales, including marine renewable energy projects.

The Big Lottery Fund is delivering the CCF on behalf of UK Government, which, according to Renewable UK Cymru, presents an opportunity for businesses in coastal areas working in the energy and environment sectors.

Businesses can access non-repayable grant funding of up to £300,000 to test new ideas or products, expand their services or improve their business model to promote job creation and economic growth.

Sian Callaghan, Chair of the Coastal Communities Fund Wales Committee said: “The environment is a key asset for Wales and the Coastal Communities Fund aims to harness the opportunities it provides to residents and businesses.

“Renewable markets are rapidly growing and forming a greater part of our business eco-system. The Fund is seeking to support creative products, services and businesses in their supply chains which will help establish the Coastal areas of Wales as key economic catalysts.”

Commenting about the CCF funding opportunity, David Clubb, Director of of Renewable UK Cymru, said: “The marine renewable energy sector has the potential to provide valuable employment and revenue-generating opportunities for coastal communities the length and breadth of Wales. RenewableUK Cymru is delighted to promote this fund, which could make a real difference to people, businesses and communities on our coastline.”

The closing date for stage one applications for Wales is set on September 29, 2016.
