FPSO Armada Kraken to sail away for North Sea soon

EnQuest, a UK-based E&P company, has informed that the FPSO unit meant for the Kraken field development will sail away from Singapore to its North Sea location ‘in the coming days’.

The harsh-environment floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel Armada Kraken, named in August 2016, will be deployed to produce the heavy oil found in the EnQuest-operated Kraken field in the UK sector of the North Sea.

At the end of October, the FPSO left Keppel Offshore & Marine’s shipyard in Singapore heading to deepwater anchorage to undertake commissioning work.

According to EnQuest’s project update on Monday, following good progress on commissioning the water systems, the FPSO vessel Armada Kraken is expected to sail away in the coming days from deepwater anchorage off the coast of Singapore for the North Sea.

The company also said that the journey should take approximately 50 days and it should be completed around mid-January 2017. The Kraken development project remains on course to deliver first oil in the first half of 2017.

Kraken field is a large heavy oil accumulation, located in the East Shetland basin, is estimated to contain approximately 140 million barrels of gross oil reserves.

The Kraken FPSO vessel is able to handle a peak fluid rate of 460,000 barrels per day (bpd) and 80,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd), 275,000 bpd of water injection, 20 million standard cubic feet (MMscf) of gas handling and has a storage capacity of 600,000 barrels.

Meanwhile, EnQuest added, drilling at the field is progressing to plan at Drill Centre Two following completion of Drill Centre One.

Also on Monday, EnQuest achieved first oil from the Scolty/Crathes development located in the UK sector of the North Sea. The development consists of two single horizontal wells tied back over via subsea pipeline to the Kittiwake host platform.
