FKAB China has informed that the MV Zhen Hua 7, the semi-submersible heavy lift vessel (SSHLV) converted from an aframax tanker, has completed various trials and tests and is now on its way to Africa for cargo operation.

FKAB conducted the conversion design of a 15 years old aframax tanker “Mako” for Chinese ship owner Zhenhua Shipping Co., Ltd.

During conversion design stage, FKAB has been working closely with owner to achieve maximum possible cargo loading flexibility through optimization of structure and ballast system configuration, the company said in the statement.

The converted SSHLV will be able to transport container cranes, offshore rigs and other heavy cargoes. Cargo can be loaded/unloaded by roll-on/roll-off or floating on / floating off method.

Total area cargo deck is about 170m x 42m. The full length of cargo deck can be submerged 9m below waterline.
