ExxonMobil awards Gulf of Mexico job to Rowan rig

Offshore driller Rowan Companies has been awarded a contract for one of its drillships by ExxonMobil to drill a prospect in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

The contract was awarded to the Rowan Relentless, one of the company’s R-Class drillships, Rowan said on Thursday.

It is expected to start in September 2018 and last for 80 days, followed by four one-well, priced options. Rowan has not revealed the dayrate for the contract.

The 2015-built Rowan Relentless is a GustoMSC P10,000 ultra-deepwater drillship. It is capable of drilling wells to depths of 40,000 feet in waters of up to 12,000 feet.

According to Rowan’s latest fleet status report, issued in April, the drillship is available until its the contract with Exxon starts.
