Ramboll has appointed Michael T. Simmelsgaard, Ex-Vattenfall Vice President of Offshore Wind, as the new Managing Director for the global energy division.

Simmelsgaard will take over the position on 1 January 2020, succeeding Thomas Rand who has decided to retire after ten years as Ramboll’s Managing Director for Energy and 41 years in the company.

Rand will continue working in a role as senior advisor for the new Managing Director, as well as the Ramboll Group.

Simmelsgaard worked in several executive management positions over the last four years within Vattenfall’s Business Area Wind. In 2017, he was promoted to the position of Vice President, heading the Business Unit Offshore Wind.

“I find it truly inspiring to be working for a company with such a clear mission and so strong values as Ramboll,” said Simmelsgaard.

“To take part in the transformation of the energy sector is a key motivation factor for me and Ramboll is one of the global leaders in energy consulting. It will be a privilege for me to lead the many thought leaders in the company and this way impact the global energy market.”

To remind, Simmelsgaard announced at the beginning of November that he had decided to leave Vattenfall. Head of Engineering Offshore Wind Jacob Nørgaard Andersen will take over the role as Danish Country Manager.
