Borr Drilling said that Kibsgaard would replace Tor Olav Trøim as chairman, who would continue to serve as a director and as a deputy chairman.

The offshore drilling contractor announced that it had picked the ex-Schlumberger CEO as its new chairman back in late August. Kibsgaard’s election took place at the company’s annual general meeting on September 27, 2019.

Kibsgaard also replaced Fredrik Halvorsen as a member of the board, who resigned as a director effective September 1, 2019.

A petroleum engineer, with a masters degree from Norwegian Institute of Technology, he began his career in 1992 working for ExxonMobil.

Kibsgaard was most recently the CEO of the oilfield services behemoth Schlumberger, where he held the position for eight years. He spent 22 years with Schlumberger.
