ESL Shipping to order two LNG-powered dry bulk carriers

Project & Tenders

A long-term frame agreement has been signed between SSAB and ESL Shipping under which the latter will order two LNG-fueled large bulk carriers for a total investment value of approximately EUR 60 million.

The agreement will cover SSAB’s, the Stockholm-based steel company, inbound raw material sea transports within the Baltic Sea and from the North Sea, the two companies informed in a statement on Thursday.

According to the Finnish dry bulk cargoes carrier ESL Shipping, the new, ice-class 1A ships with a 25.600 dwt capacity, will be the first LNG-fueled large bulk carriers in the world.

Vessels will be built at Sinotrans & CSC Qingshan Shipyard in China and will start operating in the Baltic Sea in early 2018.

The construction work is made together with the Finnish designer Deltamarin.
