EnQuest develops new incident management tool

Business & Finance

A new, fully-integrated incident investigation, reporting and management tool being implemented by EnQuest is believed to be an industry first for the North Sea.

EnQuest launches new tool

The innovation integrates two well-established market-leading systems for the first time, which together enable seamless incident investigation, reporting and management from start to finish, unlike many standalone, off-the-shelf solutions.

EnQuest was the driving force behind the development of the tool, which involved embedding Kelvin TOP-SET’s specialist investigation software with DNV GL’s Synergi™ Life tool, which is dedicated to capturing, categorising and recording incidents.

Barry Quinn, senior health, safety, environment and assurance advisor at EnQuest, who led the development of the integrated system said: “At EnQuest our top priority is to achieve and maintain excellence in health, safety and environmental performance, which means we are always looking at ways in which we can learn lessons and continually improve the way we operate. We wanted to create a tool that would give us a complete, end-to-end process from incident identification, recording and investigation through to cause analysis and effective corrective action, and while there are many great solutions on the market we were unable to identify any that fully incorporated incident management and investigation capabilities. In bringing the two systems together we have created a tool that standardises our approach to incident investigation and gives us a complete and accurate picture of all incidents across our assets, which will be extremely valuable in helping us to learn lessons and ensure we continue to deliver safe results. It is also time and cost effective because it removes the need to manually cross-reference or transfer information from one system to another.”

Quinn also added that, “More than 100 people in our offshore and onshore teams have already been trained in the system and the feedback has been extremely positive. We’ve also had a lot of interest from other operators, particularly from those in the Norwegian sector, who are keen to see the work we have done.

George Dyer-Wilson, global business development manager at Kelvin TOP-SET said: “The benefits of merging the Synergi Life and TOP-SET systems have been well recognised for some time but EnQuest was instrumental in bringing all parties together and making it happen.”

Dyer-Wilson believes the integrated software system is also likely to receive widespread interest on a global scale from a number of other industries.

Paul Stanfield from DNV GL Software said: “EnQuest is a long-standing and valued customer for our Synergi Life solution, and we are delighted that this integration with Kelvin TOP-SET is adding real value to their system. I am sure that many other organisations in the oil and gas sector anywhere in the world will be interested in this best-practice collaboration.”
