EMO to Operate New Eemshaven Heliport

Ports & Logistics

EMS Maritime Offshore (EMO) has secured a contract to operate a new heliport in the Port of Eemshaven, the Netherlands.

The construction of the heliport is said to be a response to the increasing number of companies working in offshore wind and other industries that use Eemshaven as their base and need helicopters, in addition to vessels, for transport to offshore wind projects.

EMO will be operating the heliport, while Groningen Seaports remains the owner of the needed infrastructure.

The total site covers an area of approximately 4.5ha, of which approximately 1.35ha is an airfield.

The infrastructure will include a take-off and landing area located in the north-western part of the port, as well as parking stands.

Depending on developments, a number of small buildings may be built in the future, such as a hangar and/or an office/work/reception area for the helicopter operations.

According to Groningen Seaports, a roadmap was followed for the choice and construction, both for the immediate surroundings and for the flora and fauna.

The heliport is expected to be opened around the summer.
