EDS Lands Hohe See Cable Termination & Testing Contract

Business & Finance

High voltage engineering specialist, EDS HV Group (EDS), part of James Fisher and Sons plc, has been awarded a contract to complete cable termination and testing work at the Hohe See offshore wind farm by cable manufacturer Zhongtian Technology Submarine Cable (ZTT).

Hohe See, located in the North Sea some 98 kilometres off the German coast, has an expected capacity of 497MW and will feature 71 wind turbines.

EDS will be responsible for the installation, termination and testing of 155kV cables on the offshore platforms and is due to start the project in the first quarter of 2018.

This is the company’s first contract with ZTT which manufactures subsea power and fibre optic submarine cables.

Simon Wyles, group director at EDS, said: “This relationship with ZTT and the opening of opportunities in the EU market is an exciting development for EDS’s future. We have a dedicated, highly competent and experienced team and we look forward to sharing our expertise with ZTT and making an important contribution to this project.”

EDS signed the contract on a recent visit to China which included a visit to ZTT’s manufacturing facility in Nantong.

Back in March 2017, TenneT awarded ZTT with a contract to supply and construct a 155kV HVAC grid connection between EnBW’s Hohe See and the 900MW BorWin3 DC grid connection system. As the general contractor for TenneT, ZTT will also supply shunt reactors, GIS terminal and land conversion joints.

Offshore construction on the wind farm is scheduled to start in early 2018. The commissioning of the wind farm is expected in the third quarter of 2019.
