DSME Wins Order for Two LNG Carriers

South Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has secured an order to construct two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

The deal, which was signed with an undisclosed Oceania shipowner, was agreed on February 26.

Under the contract, the shipbuilder will construct and deliver the LNG carrier pair to their owner by the end of September 2020.

In a stock exchange release, DSME said that the shipbuilding contract has a value of around KRW 394.3 billion (USD 366.7 million).

DSME added that the delivery date and final settlement amount might be changed according to the progress of the shipbuilding schedule.

The deal comes less than a month after the builder secured its first newbuilding contract in 2018.

Namely, in early February, DSME received a KRW 394.1 billion contract to build two LNG carriers from BW Gas, Clarksons Platou Shipbroking data shows.

The two 173,400 cbm LNG carriers are set for delivery in the first half of 2020 from DSME’s Okpo yard.
