DSME orders GTT tank design for 4 new MOL LNGCs

Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has ordered tank design from French containment specialist GTT for four new LNG carriers it is building for Japanese ship-owner Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL).

These new MOL LNG carriers are to operate in Arctic waters. Thus, GTT will design its tanks for navigation in cold temperatures. Each tank will feature the GTT’s membrane containment system adapted to the extreme conditions of navigation in these types of conditions.

The vessels will have a total LNG tank capacity of 174,000 cubic metres each.

DSME will start the deliveries of the vessels to MOL in 2024. Also, iter surpassed its annual order target this year. This is the first time that the shipbuilder exceeded its order target since 2014.
