DSME Delivers LNG Carrier Duo for Yamal Project

South Korea’s shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering delivered two Arctic LNG carriers, destined to work for the liquefied natural gas production project Yamal LNG, in November 2017.

The new gas carriers, named Boris Vilkitsky and Fedor Litke, were ordered as part of a series of 15 LNG carriers for Russia’s LNG project. The 85,000 dwt units feature a length of almost 300 meters and a width of 50 meters.

The ships were handed over to LNG carrier owner Dynagas Holding and will be employed under long term charter deals.

Capable of all year round operation at temperatures up to -50 °С, the ships feature a high ice class Arc7 which allows them to navigate independently in the ice of up to 2,1 meters thick when moving astern.

The 172,600 m3 capacity vessels are equipped with three Azipod propulsion units of 45 MW joint capacity and new membrane-type gas containment system GT NO96 GW.

Additionally, DSME laid the keel of a new gas carrier from the batch, hull No. 2427, during the month, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS), the technical supervisor of the construction process, said.
