Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up vessel Bold Tern has installed 44 out of 56 turbines at Ørsted’s Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm.

The vessel is currently located in the Port of Esbjerg, where it will pick up the twelveth load-out of MHI Vestas 8MW turbines to be installed at the site some 57km off the north-west coast of Germany.

The 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 produced first power to the German national grid earlier this month, while all of its 56 turbines are expected to be commissioned by the end of 2018.

The wind farm’s turbines are mounted on 20 suction bucket jacket foundations, which GeoSea’s jack-up Innovation installed last month, as well as on 36 monopile foundations, installed in May.

Located next to Borkum Riffgrund 1, the Borkum Riffgrund 2 is the first German offshore wind project to accommodate 8MW units and suction bucket foundations.
