Diamond Offshore hires Logan for rig upgrades and repairs

Business & Finance

Hydraulic repair, manufacturing, and rental company Logan Industries has signed a ten-year contract to provide a condition-based monitoring (CBM) program for wireline tensioners for drilling contractor Diamond Offshore.

Logan said earlier this week that it would provide fast turn-around upgrade and repairs to a fleet of wireline tensioners onboard five active drilling and completion rigs which have been in use for more than five years.

Traditionally, wireline tensioner equipment units are sent for repair only when they begin to deteriorate. Logan’s CBM program provides more proactive monitoring of the health of each unit, helping to predict and mitigate failures before they undergo the upgrade and overhaul process, according to the company.

Logan will be upgrading and overhauling each unit as offline availability windows open up. By using offshore real-time monitoring and logging the health of each unit, Logan will perform triage on the equipment to prioritize those that should be upgraded or overhauled first and in subsequent order.

Dean Carey, technical director of Logan Industries, said: “When a unit is tagged for an upgrade, we will perform a Logan proprietary and comprehensive overhaul with new parts, coatings, seals, and repair all required components.

“Our goal is to bring equipment to ‘better than new’ condition by mitigating corrosion problems commonly seen in the environment they operate in.

“Furthermore, we are able to do this in record time because of the rolling stock of ready spares we will keep on hand in our Hempstead facility, and the exclusive supplier agreements we have put into place to support this work.”
