Denmark: Inauguration of Anholt Offshore Wind Farm at LEGOLAND

Since the summer of 2007, DONG Energy has developed the area ‘The Energy in Denmark’ together with LEGOLAND® at the colourful LEGOLAND® Billund. Today, the miniature version of Anholt Offshore Wind Farm is ready to start spinning its wind turbines.

For DONG Energy, the LEGO bricks are not just a game. It is part of the group’s strategy to reach another segment:

“It’s important to DONG Energy to have a model of Anholt Offshore Wind Farm at LEGOLAND®. It makes DONG Energy’s activities accessible to children and their families. This is important for DONG Energy’s profile, as construction and operations of offshore wind turbines is one of our main business units,” said Flemming Thomsen, Project Director of Anholt Offshore Wind Farm.

Playing and learning are like wind and wind turbines
Children from the public school on Anholt were invited for the inauguration of Anholt Offshore Wind Farm at LEGOLAND®, to launch the LEGO wind turbines together with Henrik Höhrmann, CEO of LEGOLAND®, Jan Petersen, Mayor of Norddjurs Municipality and Flemming Thomsen.

“Playing and learning are just like wind and wind turbines – inseparable. If we can teach our children about energy through playing, it will hopefully excite some of the children and create a better understanding and sense of what energy actually is,” said Sanne Troldborg, Sponsor and Event Specialist at DONG Energy.

The miniature version of Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm has been built at the same time as the real wind farm in the Kattegat. Anholt Offshore Wind Farm will be inaugurated on 4 September 2013.
