Another worker has lost his life in the aftermath of a crane collapse at South Korea’s shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries, pushing the death toll to six workers, Yonhap News Agency cited relevant authorities.

Three workers reportedly sustained serious injuries while up to 19 workers sustained minor injuries in the accident which occurred on May 1 at the Geoje yard when two cranes collided, causing a structure to fall from one of the cranes.

Firefighting and police officials earlier informed that operations were launched in an effort to rescue others who may be trapped at the site following the 32-ton crane’s collapse.

The incident happened during the construction of an oil platform for a French energy company.

Following the incident, the Korean government ordered SHI to halt all construction works at the site. Police officials added that an investigation would be conducted to see whether Samsung Heavy fully complied with all governmental safety and security regulations for shipping yard sites.
