Oil and gas company DEA Norge has achieved its first hardware milestone for the Dvalin gas development project off Norway with the delivery of a subsea template by Aker Solutions.

The Dvalin field is located in the Norwegian Sea some 15 kilometers north-west of Heidrun and 290 kilometers from Nyhamna. The company submitted the plan for development and operation of the Dvalin field, formerly known as Zidane, to Norwegian authorities in October 2016.

Soon after the plan was filed, Aker Solutions won a contract to deliver the subsea production system, maintenance and services at the Dvalin development.

The development plan was approved by the authorities in March 2017. It entails a subsea tieback to the adjacent Heidrun platform in the Norwegian Sea. Gas from the field will be transported via Heidrun through the Polarled pipeline to the Nyhamna processing plant before being sent to the European market.

On Thursday, January 25 DEA said that Aker Solutions’ timely delivery of the template was a “major hardware milestone” for the project.

After 15 months of production at the Aker Solutions yard in Egersund, the template was handed over to DEA according to both time and budget, DEA said in the statement on Thursday.

The Dvalin project SPS Manager, Petter Øhlckers, said: “DEA is very pleased with the work performed by Aker Solutions, ensuring that the Integrated Template Structure (ITS) is delivered on time, in accordance with DEA’s specification and – most importantly – without any HSE incidents.

“For the Dvalin project this is the first major hardware milestone and an important step towards successful completion of the project.”

The ITS will be stored in Egersund until load out and installation on the Dvalin field by TechnipFMC, which is currently planned to take place in April 2018. To remind, Technip, before its merger with FMC Technologies, was in October 2016 awarded a contract by DEA to build the smaller structures and pipelines, as well as for the subsea installation work of the Dvalin development.

Aker Solutions in Egersund will continue the assembly work on the manifold module, which is on schedule for delivery in 1Q 2019, DEA concluded.

The Dvalin licensees plan to produce a total volume of approximately 18.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas from two reservoirs. First production is planned for 2020.
