The shipbuilding contract was signed together with CSSC Chengxi Shipyard and Hebei Xinyang Shipping on December 28, 2024.

As informed, the next-generation 82,000-ton bulker was independently developed by CSSC Chengxi. The ship type is green and environmentally friendly, with a large cargo capacity, and good adaptability. What is more, it meets the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Tier III and EEDI III emission standards.

As per the shipbuilder, the project is financed in the form of offshore renminbi (RMB), however, no additional details have been shared.

Hebei Xinyang has been engaged in the operation and management of dry bulk carriers such as coal and has management centers in Beijing, Caofeidian, Qinhuangdao, and more. Hebei Xinyang’s own ships are all Panamax bulk carriers, and the company charters various types of bulk carriers to transport its own goods.

The world fleet grew by only 3.4% to 2.4 billion dwt (1.7bn GT) last year, but with wide variations (bulk carrier fleet 3%, tanker fleet +0.8%, container fleet +10.1%), Clarksons’ 2024 Shipping Market Review shows.

Furthermore, shipyard output increased by 13% (CGT, Chinese market share 53% with capacity expanding) and order volumes were up 34%. 49% of newbuild tonnage ordered was alternative fuel-capable with LNG dominating.
