Croatia’s LNG terminal one step closer to capacity expansion

Business Developments & Projects

The process of increasing the capacity of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on the island of Krk, Croatia, has entered a new stage with the completion of the inspection of a regasification module at Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering in Shanghai, China.

This is said to mark a major milestone in the first phase of the project to boost the capacity of the floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) LNG Croatia. This will be done by installing an additional regasification module with a capacity of 250,000 m3/h and integrating it with the existing module on the FSRU, which is scheduled for this summer.

LNG Croatia’s Dario Ferenčaba and Marko Grbić participated in the inspection. With the process complete, the regasification module will soon be ready to be delivered. The operator expects the expansion to contribute to national and regional energy security.

The floating LNG terminal currently has an annual capacity of 2.9 billion cubic meters (bcm) and comprises a 280-meter-long FSRU and an onshore section of the terminal. The FSRU is equipped with four LNG storage tanks with a total capacity of 140,206 cubic meters, three LNG regasification units, and a power plant that generates electricity for the terminal’s operation.

Operational since 2021, the terminal welcomed its 100th LNG shipment in September 2024. An additional 10 cargoes have been delivered since then, with LNG Croatia taking delivery of the 110th shipment, arriving onboard LNG carrier British Achiever, on January 16, 2025.
