This milestone operation took place on February 19, 2025, when CPN supplied 5,500 MT of B24 low sulfur fuel oil (LSFO) to vessel XIN Los Angeles, a containership operated by COSCO Shipping.

The operation also marked the largest biofuel delivery among all Chinese ports, CPN said.

Since 2021, CPN has established a dedicated task force to conduct research on alternative fuels, including marine biofuel, which is aimed at contributing to a more sustainable shipping industry. In 2024, the company reported supplying more than 44,000 metric tons of biofuels in Hong Kong, which accounted for more than 96% market share.

Just recently, CPN delivered ISCC-EU-certified B24 marine biofuel to Royal Caribbean’s 2008-built cruise ship Celebrity Solstice in Hong Kong.

In August last year, CPN provided biofuel to container shipping company Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) for its first biofuel bunkering operation in Hong Kong.

The marine fuel supplier also teamed up with Singapore-based shipping company Swire Shipping, part of Swire Group, on a sustainable B24 biofuel trial on Swire’s transpacific service.

When it comes to other alternative marine fuel options, CPN formed a partnership with Hong Kong and China Gas Company (Towngas) to develop domestic and international green methanol marine fuel markets and promote Hong Kong as a green marine fuel center.
