Councillor Bastiman Urges MPs to Make Funds Available for Port Development (UK)

A senior councillor has written to Ministers to try to secure funding from a £60m pot to finance infrastructure for ports in Scarborough and Whitby ahead of the arrival of the multi-billion pound off-shore wind farm industry.

The deputy leader of Scarborough Council, Councillor Derek Bastiman, has urged MPs Vince Cable and Chris Huhne to make additional funding available for the ports, which are not currently eligible to receive support because of their geographical locations.

Coun Bastiman, who wrote the letter on behalf of a number of local authorities in Yorkshire which hope to benefit from renewable energy development, said the region’s ports have a “key role” in supporting the offshore wind industry.
