COSCO Shipping’s newest LNG dual-fuel PCTC embarks on maiden voyage

MV Gan Jiang Kou, the newest LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) owned by COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers, a unit of China’s COSCO Shipping Group, has officially set sail on its maiden voyage.

Following the recent naming ceremony, the 200-meter-long Gan Jiang Kou embarked on its first voyage on September 24, transporting 4,500 vehicles from Shanghai, China to Southeast Africa.

“This voyage marks a meaningful contribution to the ongoing economic and trade cooperation between China and Africa,” COSCO Shipping said in a social media statement.

The vessel is scheduled to stop at the Port of Durban in South Africa and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania in the coming days.

COSCO Shipping’s newest PCTC is powered LNG dual-fuel technology to boost its environmental performance and transport efficiency and is part of the company’s commitment to sustainability and “adheres to the highest international eco-friendly standards”, according to the shipowner.
