COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers, a unit of China’s COSCO Shipping Group, has held a naming ceremony for its newest liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier (PCTC).

As disclosed, the vessel was named during a ceremony which took place in Guangzhou on September 19, 2024. MV Gan Jiang Kou measures almost 200 meters in length, has a width of 38 meters and a depth of 14.8 meters.

Furthermore, the ship can carry 7,000 vehicles across twelve decks, including four liftable decks. During its inaugural journey, the PCTC will transport vehicles from China to the African region.

COSCO Shipping noted that the PCTC is powered by advanced LNG dual-fuel technology to boost its environmental performance and transport efficiency.

The project is part of the company’s commitment to sustainability and “adheres to the highest international eco-friendly standards”, it was highlighted.

“With this addition, we are furthering our mission for a greener, more efficient future in global transportation,” COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers commented in a social media post.

Recently, COSCO Shipping signed an investment, construction and leasing agreement for 42 bulk carriers in a major fleet expansion push. The vessels in this transaction are energy-saving and environmentally friendly green ships, some of which are methanol-ready, environmentally friendly bulk carriers. These ships will be delivered in succession from 2026 to 2027 and will be leased to COSCO Shipping Bulk for the long term.
