Cosco bags flotel order

An unnamed Singaporean company has ordered an offshore accommodation unit from the China-based COSCO (Qidong) Offshore.

Cosco bags flotel order

According to a statement issued by Cosco today, the flotel is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2017.

The buyer, only described by Cosco as “a Singapore entity”, has also secured options to order five more offshore accommodation units.

Worth noting, the yard is currently building two units of the kind for Axis Offshore, based in Singapore. The flotels, named Axis Nova and Axis Vega, are slated for delivery in 1Q 2015 and 4Q 2015 respectively.

Offshore Energy Today today sent an e-mail to Axis Offshore asking if the company is behind the order announced by Cosco today too. Axis Offshore, established in 2012 as a joint venture between Danish shipowner, J. Lauritzen and Norwegian private equity fund, Hitec Vision, did not immediately respond to the e-mail seeking comment.
