Corrosion BV to Take Care of Yunlin Foundations

Project & Tenders

Dutch-based Corrosion BV has won a contract to provide corrosion protection systems for the wind turbine foundations on the Yunlin offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

Corrosion will deliver Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) systems for the wind farm’s 80 monopile foundations. The systems will protect the foundations both externally and internally. The first units are expected to be installed by the end of the year, Corrosion said.

The 640MW Yunlin offshore wind project reached financial close at the end of May. The wind farm will be built eight kilometers off Taiwan’s west coast and will consist of 80 Siemens Gamesa turbines of the 8MW class. Project completion is scheduled for December 2021.

The wind farm is 73% owned by wpd and 27% owned by a Sojitz Corp-led consortium which includes Chugoku Electric Power Co. Inc., Chudenko Corporation, Shikoku Electric Power Co., Inc., and JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation.

Van Oord is in charge of the design, manufacturing, and installation of the wind farm’s monopile foundations.
