On February 1, the keel was laid for Sirius Shipping’s new oil/chemical tanker.

The vessel is the first in the series of two 7,999 dwt newbuildings ordered by Sirius Shipping at China’s AVIC Dingheng Shipyard in 2016.

Sirius Shipping said that ESSO Norway will take this newbuild on a time charter once it is delivered.

To be built to the EVOLUTION design, the 9,700 cbm tankers will have ICE class 1A and will comply with TIER III (IMO II).

Scheduled for delivery in 2018, the newbuilds will feature a length of 119.9 meters and a width of 19.4 meters.

The company currently operates a fleet of fourteen oil/chemical tankers and LNG tankers.
