Offshore Wind

With over 50 years of experience in the construction, manufacturing, supply and assembly of steel structures, Smulders was the logical choice for offshore wind structures back in the pioneering days of wind energy almost 20 years ago. Today, Smulders is an established market leader that offers a full range of services from engineering and fabrication to the complete turnkey solutions (EPCI) of steel foundations and Offshore High Voltage Substations.

For transition pieces, we offer a full inhouse supply chain for the secondary steel components giving unique advantages in logistics and flexibility. Jacket foundations are also completely manufactured and provided with secondary steel components by Smulders. These large and complex structures are built at an incredible rate of more than one jacket per week.

Furthermore, Smulders offers a full range of services from fabrication to complete turnkey solutions (EPCI) of Offshore High-Voltage Substations. By internally sharing and maintaining our acquired knowledge, our extensive engineering -and project management team has all the required know-how at their disposal. This knowledge is not solely restricted to steel constructions, but complemented with disciplines such as electrical (LV, MV & HV), HVAC and utilities design.

We have a track record of over 1,900 transition pieces, 100 jackets and 30 substations and their accompanying foundations. Our most recent projects are:

  • Moray East: 55 jacket foundations and 3 Offshore Transformer Modules
  • SeaMade: 58 transition pieces and 2 topsides & transition pieces
  • Triton Knoll: 90 transition pieces and 2 Offshore Transformer Modules

Offshore Oil & Gas

The diversity and fit of our business lines, our employees’ expertise, the performance of our production facilities and our ability to innovate enable us to play an active role covering all areas of the oil & gas sector. Smulders delivers amongst other platforms, jackets and subsea structures, either their individual manufacture or as full-scale EPCI projects.

Production facilities

All aspects of the production process are managed in-house and divided amongst different production facilities. This ensures a time and cost-efficient process under safe working conditions and guarantees that the high quality and environmental standards are being met. By using a well-balanced mix of locations, capacity and facilities, Smulders has optimally geared itself towards the production of foundations for the offshore sector throughout the years. This, together with the flexible setup of the centralised project organisation enables a quick turn-round.

Smulders operates from facilities located in Belgium (Arendonk, Balen & Hoboken), the Netherlands (Vlissingen), Poland (Zary) and the United Kingdom (Newcastle upon Tyne).

A responsible player

Besides quality and reliability in terms of delivery, other important operating aspects include health, safety and environment, and Smulders requires that they meet the highest standards. For this reason, our operations are based on carefully documented working methods; we perform risk analyses on an ongoing basis, and we keep records of all the production phases in our projects. This type of dynamics can be achieved only in an open-minded organisation, where all the employees feel jointly responsible for the full circle of offering the best service possible.
