CNOOC’s executive suspected of bribery

China National Offshore Oil Company’s (CNOOC) senior official is under investigation suspected of having received bribes, Reuters has reported today. 

Reuters has quoted China’s top prosecutor as saying that CNOOC’s senior official is under investigation for suspected graft, a form of political corruption.

China’s President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, Xi Jinping, has launched an attack on corruption warning that the problem is a threat to the Communist Party’s survival.

Luo Weizhong, general manager of CNOOC Gas & Power group, a fully owned subsidiary of CNOOC, had also been detained, Reuters said. Weizhong is the general manager of international trading for the CNOOC Gas & Power group, which is in charge of investing in multi-billion dollar gas import terminals and lining up long-term import deals of liquefied natural gas.
