As disclosed, the vessel is the 8th 5,500TEU containership delivered by Beihai Shipbuilding and the 19th ship delivered by the shipbuilder this year. The company also held a christening ceremony and the vessel was named CMA CGM Kauri.

The boxship was designed and built by Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding in collaboration with the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI).

With a total length of 255 meters, a beam of 40 meters, and a depth of 22 meters, the CMA CGM Kauri has a structural draft of 14 meters. It boasts a service speed of 21 knots, and its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) is improved by 53.4% compared to the baseline, making it a highly environmentally friendly vessel, according to the company.

The ship is powered by the latest WinGD 7X82-2.0 main engine, to ensure safety and reduce environmental impact.

The shipyard applied lessons learned from previous shipbuilding projects to optimize the construction of this vessel. As a result, all performance data exceeded the contractual specifications, the firm said.

To remind, CMA CGM also recently welcomed LNG-powered newbuild from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), CMA CGM Fort Diamant.
