China’s imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) are continuing to rise and they were up 37 percent in September year-on-year as the country is pursuing its plan to cut addiction to coal to reduce pollution and is preparing for the winter period.

The world’s largest energy consumer imported 3.45 million mt of the chilled fuel last month, according to the General Administration of Customs data.

This figure was slightly down below the country’s monthly LNG import record of 3.7 million mt, reached in December last year.

In the January-September period, LNG imports rose 43 percent to 25.55 million mt with most of the supplies coming from Australia and Qatar.
