Cape Sharp Tidal Eyes Turbine Deployment in June

Nova Scotia-based Cape Sharp Tidal announced plans to begin the installation of the first out of two planned tidal turbines at the Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE) test site near Parrsboro in June.

During the first week of June, the first tidal turbine is expected to depart from the Pictou Shipyard and head to its location at FORCE, the company informed.

The deployment of the turbine could begin between June 24 and 27, weather permitting.

Later this summer, Cape Sharp plans to deploy the second turbine, and connect the complete 4 MW tidal array to the Nova Scotia power grid.

Furthermore, through the deployment the company expects to learn more about the marine ecosystem of the Minas Passage. In collaboration with FORCE, Cape Sharp Tidal has developed an environmental effects and monitoring program which will help in better understanding how marine life interacts with the turbines, and how the company can harness the energy of the tides, while protecting the ecosystem.
