Canada launches $25M clean energy program

 
Government of Canada is seeking proposals for projects under the C$25 million ($19.5 million) Clean Energy Innovation Program whose goal is to bring clean energy technologies closer to commercialization.

The Program’s objective is to provide funding support to energy technology innovation aimed at producing and using energy more cleanly and efficiently.

Once commercialized, these clean energy technologies will be available for wide adoption, creating new opportunities for Canadian clean technology solutions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions both domestically and globally, according to Canadian government.

The initiative also helps Canada meet its Mission Innovation goal to double its 2014–2015 funding of C$387 million for clean energy and clean technology research and development to C$775 million by 2020.

Jim Carr, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, said: “We know the important role clean technology will play in our transition to a lower carbon economy. Through Mission Innovation, we’re making important investments to help our entrepreneurs research, develop and demonstrate the use of clean energy technologies.

“The Clean Energy Innovation Program will provide more than C$25 million for these entrepreneurial activities, all with the goal of making our cities cleaner, our environment healthier and our economy stronger.”

The deadline for project proposals has been set for October 31, 2016.

Under Mission Innovation, Canada stands with 20 governments and the European Commission, which agreed to double their respective investments in transformative, clean energy research and development over five years, encourage private sector investment in clean energy technology and increase collaboration among participating countries.
