BW says Egypt FSRU operating at full capacity

Shipping company BW said Monday its FSRU BW Singapore, used as Egypt’s second LNG import terminal in Ain Sokhna Port, has been in full operation since October 2015.

“Since operations commenced, BW Singapore has carried out more than 10 Ship-to-Ship (STS) operations and sent out between 500-600 mmscf/d of natural gas on a daily basis into the national grid,” BW said in a statement.

Singapore-based BW confirmed in September last year it has been selected by EGAS of Egypt to provide LNG regasification services under a five-year deal utilizing an FSRU in Ain Sokhna.

BW Singapore was delivered in September and started operations in October. It has a storage capacity in excess of 170,000 cbm and a peak regasification capacity of 750 mmscfd.

LNG payment issues

It was reported in December that Egypt was struggling to pay for the LNG cargoes the country imports within the agreed 15-day period after unloading.

Egas denied last week media reports on having problems with payments for chilled gas it imports. The company said it has postponed an LNG delivery from BP for the later part of the year.

Reuters initially cited sources as saying the delivery to Egypt has been pushed to October, after British Sapphire LNG carrier spent a fortnight waiting to unload its cargo at Ain Sokhna before being diverted to Brazil on January 7. The reason was reportedly a previously unpaid cargo.

BW also confirmed that there were no problems with payments for the charter of BW Singapore.

“BW has noted recent press reports regarding payment issues in Egypt, but can confirm that payment for due hire has been received,” the company said.
