BW Group chief executive calls it quits

Chief executive officer (CEO) of global maritime company BW Group has decided to resign from his position for personal reasons.

BW said on Monday that the Group CEO Carsten Mortensen resigned from the company for personal reasons, effective immediately.

Andreas Sohmen-Pao, BW Group chairman, said: “Carsten and I have had a great partnership working closely together to grow the company, but the non-stop travel and living on two continents eventually reached a natural limit for him. We are very grateful to Carsten for his contributions and wish him all the best for the future.”

To remind, Mortensen was appointed as the CEO back in July 2014 to replace Sohmen-Pao who took on the chairman role.

During his tenure, Mortensen was the CEO of BW Group and board member of BW Offshore Limited, BW LPG Limited, and BW Pacific Limited as well as the director of DHT Holdings.

Mortensen has over 30 years of shipping experience, 11 of which were spent at A.P. Moller-Maersk and 17 at D/S Norden.

His previous appointments include CEO of D/S Norden from 2005 to 2014 and as the managing director of Maersk Broker UK Ltd. from 1995 to 1997.

Mortensen was a board member of the Danish Shipowners Association (DSA) and its chairman from 2011 to 2014. He served as the board member of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) from 2009 to 2011.

From 2012 to 2013, he chaired Vsekstteam (or Growth Team), an initiative by the Danish Government to create jobs in the Danish Maritime Cluster. Mortensen was also awarded a Knight of the Order of Dannebrog in 2013.
