Bureau Veritas has issued an approval in principle (AIP) for Ditrel Industrial’s Konekta2 connector designed for use with energy converters in marine environment.

Ditrel’s device-to-cable connector Konekta2 received the AIP certification on June 9, 2017, the certification body Bureau Veritas informed.

Konekta2 can be used to connect and disconnect different types of energy converters in the marine environment.

It was developed with the objective of simplifying the connection operations, and reduce costs and time by avoiding the use of large vessels and submarine equipment, according to Ditrel.

The project, run in collaboration with Tecnalia, began in 2014 with the 13.2kV connector design.

The certification work on the full-scale prototype began in July 2016, ahead of deployment for survival trials at Bimep which followed in March 2017, as part of the RECODE project.

The RECODE project, led by Tecnalia and funded under Oceanera-Net initiative, aims to cut costs associated with ocean energy by developing cost effective components specifically designed for the reliable and sustainable delivery of ocean energy.
