Bristol forges stronger ties with Zhejiang province

Bristol and Zhoushan colleagues onboard Zhoushan 60 kW prototype floating tidal turbine

Bristol will welcome the delegation of government officials and industry representatives from Zhejiang province, China, to discuss the opportunities for collaboration in the area of marine renewable energy.

According to Regen SW, the delegation from Zhoushan archipelago in China’s Zhejiang province will today, October 26, 2015, meet with Bristol and south west UK representatives from local government, industry and the regional, academic Partnership for Marine in Marine Renewable Energy (PRIMaRE) to discuss areas for collaboration, export opportunities and best practice in the development of marine renewable energy.

The group will also join the Regen SW’s ninth Bristol Tidal Energy Forum event at Burges Salmon LLP’s offices in Bristol on October 27, to hear from key supply chain companies and to present on the current activity, policy and funding surrounding the development of marine renewable energy in China.

Regen SW states that Bristol’s position as one of the world’s largest clusters of companies and expertise in tidal energy sector and Zhoushan’s 2 GW of potential extractable tidal stream energy and national designation as China’s pilot marine energy test bed, make Zhousan and Bristol ‘natural collaborators’.

To remind, Ian Godfrey from Regen SW visited Zhoushan in March 2015, as part of the Bristol 2015, Marine Energy Accelerator Programme (MEAP), joining IT Power to run workshop discussing regional and national activity in tidal energy both in China and the UK. The trip also provided the opportunity to meet with the vice mayor of Zhoushan, Zhou Wei Jiang and extend an invitation for a reciprocal visit.
