Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up vessel Brave Tern is ready to tackle the largest turbines currently in the market after completing a crane boom extension at Damen Shipyard in Amsterdam.

After getting the crane boom extended by 20 metres, the jack-up is now ready for new projects with a lift height of up to 120 metres, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier said.

”Brave Tern is now ready to install WTG’s with larger turbines and higher hub heights, such as MVOW V164 8MW,” the company said.

Fred. Olsen Carrier operates two wind turbine installation vessels, Brave Tern and Bold Tern. Bold Tern is currently installing MHI Vestas 8MW turbines on the 450MW Borkum Riffgrunf 2 wind farm in the German North Sea.

Brave Tern’s most recent projects included the installation of the 70 Adwen 5MW turbines on the Wikinger wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, as well as work on the Walney Extension wind farm in the UK.
