Bimep opens tender for underwater sensors

Biscay Marine Energy Platform (bimep) has issued a call for the development, testing and demonstration of a submarine interconnection marine energy sensor device.

The prototype sensor device should be capable of producing a breakout consisting of an underwater device suited for interconnecting five umbilicals from collectors, concentrating on a single cable evacuation electricity and capable of sending data to the coast.

The project is worth €1.25 million, and the time period of the project is set for 42 months. The tender closes on November 20, 2015.

With a power generating capacity of 20 MW, bimep is research infrastructure dedicated for demonstrating the technical and economic viability of marine energy converters prior to their large-scale commercialisation.

Bimep was officially opened in July, 2015, and is located 1.7 km off Armintza, Spain.

It is 92% owned by the Basque energy agency, Ente Vasco de la Energia, while the remaining shares belong to the Energy Agency of the Spanish Ministry for Industry and Tourism.
