Atlantis names power generation director

Business & Finance

Atlantis Resources has appointed Stephen Ward as Director of Power Generation following the relocation of its headquarters to Edinburgh, Scotland.

Ward joins Atlantis from Adwen Offshore, a joint venture between AREVA Wind and Gamesa Offshore, where he had been responsible for the project management, installation and logistics elements of various European tender submissions.

Prior to AREVA Wind, he was a Senior Project Manager at ScottishPower Renewables from 2006 to 2012. Ward will report directly to Atlantis’ Chief Executive Officer, Tim Cornelius.

Tim Cornelius said: “I am delighted to welcome Stephen to the Atlantis team. His operational experience, insight and knowledge of the renewable energy and power generation sectors gained over many years will be a huge asset at a truly exciting juncture in Atlantis’ development. As a key member of the Executive Management Group, based in Edinburgh, he will be crucial in helping to drive the construction stage of the MeyGen project and increase the company’s wider project development portfolio.”

Situated in the Pentland Firth, off Scotland, the MeyGen tidal array will consist of 269 submerged tidal turbines, with 398 MW capacity, enough to power 175.000 Scottish homes.

In Phase 1A of the project, four submerged turbines generating 6 MW will be installed off Caithness, with the first power expected to be delivered in 2016.
