Ashtead Provides nCentric Tech for Fugro’s North Africa Ops

Business & Finance

Ashtead Technology is delivering nCentric wireless mesh communication network to assist Fugro Subsea Services operation in North Africa.

Utilising nCentric Nova Node technology combined with the HyperBox, Ashtead has supplied video streaming and data transmissions between four vessels during the installation and hook-up of a new floating, storage and offloading vessel (FSO).

The system can be configured remotely and monitored in real-time from an onshore location, limiting downtime and creating a reliable communication link in challenging, hard-to-reach areas.

Ashtead was selected as Fugro’s preferred supplier of subsea rental equipment and associated services in 2015.

Ross MacLeod, business development director at Ashtead Technology, said: “Unlike traditional cable networks, the nCentric system can be installed within an hour, by our team of fully qualified and experienced engineers. The exchange of data and video images in real-time is critical to manage ROVs and subsea operations, as well as maintain operational safety.”

“The nCentric’s wireless solution for vessel to vessel or vessel to shore communication is proving to be a useful system and the feedback I am getting from my offshore staff is very favorable.”

“With this in mind I have suggested to colleagues that its use could be extended to some of our other operations” a Fugro spokesman said.
