The initial delivery, scheduled for November, was postponed by Meyer Werft in October as the shipbuilder needed more time to thoroughly test all of the ship’s systems in order to ensure smooth operation of the vessel.

The first guests will be welcomed aboard on Tenerife on December 19, 2018, Carnival said announcing the delivery.

“We are incredibly proud to be operating what is currently the world’s most eco-friendly cruise ship, and we will be consistently pursuing this path of continuous development,” Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises, said.

Featuring a length of 337 meters and a width of 42 meters, the 180,000 tonne ship is able to accommodate 6,600 passengers.

In 2021 and 2023, two additional ships from this new AIDA generation will join the AIDA fleet.
