AIDA Cruises’ vessels to be powered by LNG during layover at Port of Hamburg

Aida Cruises informed on Friday its two vessels, the LNG-powered AIDAprima and its Sphinx class cruise ship AIDAsol will use electricity produced from LNG while berthed in the port of Hamburg on May 14. 

According to the company’s statement, AIDAprima will be bunkered using the truck-to-ship method while the AIDAsol cruise ship will be powered by the LNG Hybrid Barge, the Hummel.

AIDAprima has already completed the first LNG-supply trial run in Hamburg last week.

The LNG-powered vessel was recently christened in Hamburg following the completion of its full test run, and LNG operations at the ports of Southampton, Le Havre and Zeebrügge.

The vessel has ben built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has 18 decks, is 300 meters in overall length, and has a gross tonnage of 125,000 tons.
